Lesley wanted the night to be perfect. She could see Eric leaning against the doorjamb in his smoking tux with a corsage ready to slide onto her wrist. His car was idling at the curb, his dad's red corvette. Her mom and pop took several photos of the cute couple before Lesley cuddled them and slipped out the door. She pulled her wrap tight around her shoulders as she slid into the passenger side door he held open. The seats were black leather and smelled great. Kind of like how Eric smelled.
She heard her name. It sounded far away, but she recognized the tone. She whipped out Macy's coupons and stated that it was time to hit the mall.
Lesley was essentially excited to go dress shopping. This was her first real dance and she had just seen the perfect dress in her daydream. It was dark sliver and floated all the way to the floor. That was difficult considering her slender six-foot frame. There was black lace lining the collar and thick dark ribbons crisscrossed up the back lacing it tight. The dress might be somewhere, and Macy's was as good a starting point as any, especially when discounts were involved.
Tulle peered out of sleeves and along the lower hems of many dresses. Denise already had her arms full and was heading towards the dressing rooms, but Lesley was not having any good fortune. There was only one rack left and from this distance it seemed like the rack of misfit dresses. Was that plaid she spotted?
She moved to put it back but saw that something was lying on the ground, stuck in the middle of the rack where no one could see it. She bent down and pulled the dress form its prison. It was dark silver. Something fluttered in the pit of her stomach so she held the dress up. It was even long enough. Lesley darted into the dressing room across from a stall that had Macy's coupons scattered across the floor. That had to be Denise.
She tried on the dress. Perfect fit. Then she asked Lesley how much the dress was. Lesley's heart dropped. She hadn't thought to look. She craned her neck and felt along the hem with her fingers. Great, that meant it might be 2 hundred thousand greenbacks. Lesley did as she was told and when the lady at the desk could not find the tag either she used the hand held gizmo to scan in something taped to the desk top. Then Lesley handed over the Macy's discounts and held her breath. She breathed out and jumped for joy when the price collapsed to half. She was getting her dress.
